An insurance contract that may provide interest accumulation, payments, or other contractually defined benefits in exchange for premium payments.

Understanding Fixed Indexed Annuity Terminology.
Fixed Indexed Annuities are an important focus of our educational resources.
These contracts use market indexes as references for calculating potential interest under contractual formulas.
Knowing the meaning of a few key crediting terms can make these contracts easier to evaluate.
- Cap rates and maximum credits
- Participation rates
- Spreads and margins
- Crediting floors
- Crediting periods and renewals
- Income riders and benefit bases
- Surrender and liquidity provisions
Remember that the full contract matters more than any single number. An indexed crediting floor, for example, does not eliminate all costs or risks.

Whether you're learning annuity terminology, considering a fixed indexed annuity, or reviewing an existing contract, Doctor for Financial Health is ready to begin an informed conversation.
This glossary provides simplified general educational definitions and does not replace the language in any actual insurance contract or constitute individualized financial, insurance, investment, tax, or legal advice. Definitions and features vary by insurer and product. Annuity guarantees depend on the issuing insurance company's claims-paying ability. Annuities are not FDIC-insured. Fixed indexed annuities do not invest directly in their referenced indexes. Withdrawals may involve surrender charges, adjustments, taxes, or other consequences. Actual contract provisions control.
